Brenn Carlson, hired killer and makeshift leader of a small band of mercenaries sent to hunt, find and kill Biff Calhoon, was on the run. It had been a disaster - a simple job gone horribly wrong. It wasn't his fault though, right? Who could have foreseen an infamous killer dropping from the sky, ripping apart his men like they were rag dolls. With their own weapons, no less. It'd been one of the more grim sights the assassin had seen in his life. Brenn had run for some time, his only companion the bounty hunter Travis Kamino, but soon enough he'd found a small marketplace to blend into and settled outside a noodle house. Ordering a tea from the waitress that came forth to greet the unusual pair, Brenn dusted down his designer suit and took a seat, removing his sunglasses to polish them with a velvet cloth he produced from his pocket. "That was something else." |

Carlson could feel his handheld cortex vibrating. A message lit up on the screen. Was the trash taken out? The waitress had taken Carlsons order and looked at Kamino for his. |

TK had moved silently beside Carlson as the rest had fallen around them or fled into the other small openings off the square. The madman with the LMG had been a hitch, for sure, but the order to pull back had been a moment of clarity in the general insanity of the moment. Upon reaching the square and slipping into the sea of civillians, TK soon removed his helmet, clipping it to a point at the back of his shoulder with a quiet, magnetic click, and relying on his eyes for any further information he'd gleam. They'd certainly done the job before. A few minutes later he sat opposite Carlson, still silent, with a waitress starring right back at him. "Sir?" she asked again. He shook his head and offered her the menu. "Just a tea." he stated simply, looking back to Carlson and folding his arms, waiting to see what the man did next. |

Carlson nodded at the women and watched her leave, only producing the small handheld device in lap once she was well out of range of their table. Despite the busy market streets nearby, the sea of civilians to blend into, Brenn just didn't feel safe. They were still exposed. He checked the screen, sighed, and gave it a moments thought before punching in a reply. "T Hawke. Problems on planetside. Will require further assets. Mission pending." He shut the device off after that, wanting a few hours to think before a response came back through. He turned his attention to Travis, the only other survivor of the chaos, and again wiped his brow as he polished down his sunglasses. "Any bright ideas now?" He waved the no deactivated uplink in front of TK. "That was upstairs. I assume they're still in orbit, and it's a safe guess that by now they're quite pissed." He tapped the device against the table, sliding his sunglasses back into place on his nose, and looked around them casually for a few moments. "Man of your reputation, I imagine you have a back door plan? You know, when you gotta jump ship and all." He shook his head, speaking words he never thought he would. Brenn Carlson had never been so lost. How had he been to know that Tobias Hawke would drop from the sky? |

His handheld cortex lit up again, overriding his power off cycle. All transmissions through the device were encrypted. New Primary Objective. Retrieve Tobias Hawke in stable condition. All other objectives are secondary. Stand by for coordinates to safe house. A map flashed onto the device, indicating with a red dot where the safe house was located. It was approximately 5 blocks west. |

Brenn frowned at the device for a few moments, as if it were a disobedient child, and then casually passed it across to his colleague, the message and map still on the screen. |

Travis quietly watched Carlson work as he waited for his tea. The man seemed uneasy, understandably so perhaps. He shook his head to the mans first question. "Not particularly. Targets falling out of the sky is a new one, even on me." The following comment about back door plans didn't sit well with Travis, so he returned to his quiet meditation as he scanned the passing crowd at the edge of his vision. Moments later, a reply from Upstairs. Carlson read the message, frowned to himself, then offered it to Travis who leaned forward, covering the side of the screen with one hand and read carefully. "Stable." he repeatedly to himself quietly. Quickly glancing to either side, he then leaned forward toward Carlson. "High value asset then, back seat to the bomber anyway." Travis paused as if internally running some numbers. "Interesting." he then added with a nod and a small hint of a smile. Travis looked over his shoulder to the helmet at his back, then back to Carlson. "They'll run, we'll follow. Best plan is always a simple one." He stated simply, eyes wide with ideas. |

The waitress came back with the tea and placed it on the table. She gave Carlson a flirtatious smile and a wink before heading back to her duties, almost completely ignorong TK. Two men, local police in their patrol uniforms entered the tea house. They walked over to one of the waitress's and started talking to her. They both had standard issued alliance sidearms strapped to their duty belts. |

Carlson played the usual routine with the waitress, somewhat rushed and frustrated, but nevertheless played the role until she was walking away. He then sighed, sipping the tea, and nodded to TK's suggestions. "You're not phased to continue after the target... well, targets... when our numbers have dropped from twenty seven to two?" Brenn grinned at the figures, almost sadistically, and his face started to show the first signs of legitimate worry all day. He had been paid to lead this pack - what happened to him, even if they brought in Hawke, when he told Upstairs that everyone else was dead? "Let's say we check the safe house first, make sure it's suitable, and then get a read on this Hawke character?" As he spoke, Carlson watched the pair of officers walk into the building, and his right hand landed casually on his upper leg, ready to flash to his holster at a moments notice. "Not like the man's going to be hard to find." He added, the sound of a jet engine roaring high overhead. They were still only a few blocks from the chaos. |

Travis held the warm tea in his hands, leaning over the cup and letting the warm aroma rise up into his face, flicking a quick sideways glance to the two patrolmen as they entered, before quickly looking down to his beverage. Phased. He considered the word for a moment, it didn't fit. "No, not now that we know what we're dealing with. He got the drop on up us, a chance he won't be getting again." Nodding, he brought to cup to his face and took a mouthful. "Sounds good. In the meantime aren't the local colour going to be asking a few questions about the gorram bloodbath around the corner?" Travis asked with a smile, balancing the hot cup in one hand as he leaned back into his chair with a happy sigh. |

Brenn nodded at that, taking one more sip from his tea. He didn't share the happy sigh Travis had to offer, placing the mug down on the table and re-positioning his suit jacket before standing up. Another nod to TK and then Carlson was on his way out, dropping a few lazy credits on the table to cover their beverages. There wasn't time for a tea party. First stop, safe house. Second, capturing the 'Verses most wanted man. Third, getting paid and (hopefully) not strung up for the collateral that he had on his hands. One thing at a time. |

Travis quickly drained the rest of the tea into his mouth before rising to his feet and marching silently after Carlson, starring straight through the waitress and Alliance officers as if they weren't even there. As soon as the pair stepped outside, he reached to his back and removed the attached helmet, slipping it back over his head with a practiced ease. His eyes quickly began darting around the inside of it, as he focused his thoughts to more pressing matters, that of Tobias Hawke. The bounty on Calhoun had been one thing, just another dead or alive claimed with charred remains, but this one looked to be a bit more trouble. Travis didn't like trouble, and yet, he looked at the one of the earlier image he'd managed to capture of the man and smiled. |

Large crowds were out in the street, trying to catch a glimpse of what happened during the shoot out. Several ships buzzed over head, consisting of Law Enforcement and the Media. Taking advantage of the crowds, TK and Carlson were able to blend in and make their way to the Safe House. Following the map on the handheld cortex, they were able to reach their destination without incident. At first glance it appeared to be an abadoned two story brick building with boarded up windows. But for those with a keen eye, you could see a small thumb print scanner hidden within the brick, closest to a thick metal door. |

Brenn had led the way through the crowds, keeping his head low and his demeanor silent. Upon arriving at the safehouse, Carlson lowered his glasses to examine the run down building that stood before them, raising an eyebrow towards his companion before approaching the building to examine it further. He nodded to TK, as if to get the man to stand on watch, and started fiddling with the crumbling wall around the thick metal door. A mintue later, Brenn had identified the scanner, examining it carefully before shrugging and press his thumb into the pad. |

Travis followed Brenn through the crowds, eyes darting between the strangers before falling to rest on an unimpressive looking, abandoned building. As his comrade moved toward it with a quick nod to offer, Travis remained where he stood, taking a few moments to scan the nearby rooftops and any other nearby vantage points. Hawke wouldn't be getting the drop on them twice, not in this lifetime. He shouldered his riffle, but kept it pointed down, then slowly turned on the spot, letting his gaze slowly scroll across the surrounding area with a methodical flick of his focus. Finally, he found himself looking back at the safe house. It had walls and no bullet holes that he could spot. It would do just fine. |

As Carlson placed his thumb on the scanner, it began to light up green. The thick metal door slid open with a whoosh. You could now see a brightly lit stairwell with metal walls leading below. It was strange that it didn't directly lead into the abadoned house. |

Carlson nodded at the action before him, removing his sunglasses to get a better look inside the lit stairwell beyond. Placing the glasses in his pocket, Brenn turned to Travis and gave a short whistle before proceeding inside. The area around seemed clear from where he was standing, so Carlson proceeded inside and down the stairs, handgun in hand.

Carlson and TK proceeded down the stairwell as the metal door slid closed behind them and made a clicking sound. The stairwell led them downwards in a spiral fashion. Upon reaching the bottom, lights started to flicker on displaying a large open warehouse. Metal shelves lined the area containing thousands of rounds of all kinds of ammunition and a every weapon you could think of. Handguns, high powered rifles, automatic rifles, rockets, grenade launchers, explosives, flame throwers. This place was stocked like a military base! In the center of the room were a variety of expensive cars and trucks and a military grade heli-jet (Jet powered helicopter) with thick armored plating and weapons. It has a turret below and 4 missiles fixed on each side. You could also see a long table located against a back wall that contained high grade body armor, titanium swords and knives, and smoke grenades. Two experimental rifles hung against the wall behind the table which looked to fire plasma rounds. They were light weight and equipped with scopes. There was also a med bag which contained various high grade medicinal supplies for dealing with combat wounds. Another adjacent table revealed several non lethal weapons and equipment such as an electro baton, taser gun, taser rifle, electric net cannon, sound pulse rifle, dart rifle, rubber bullet rifle, handcuffs, tear gas and gas masks. If you were to go into the far side of the warehouse you would see a small room containing bunk beds, a bathroom/shower and a metal door. The metal door opens up a stockpile of food and water which would last for months. |

Travis followed TK inside, and down the winding staircase. He'd expected it to be stocked and well fortified, but not quite so much. As the lights overhead began to flicker on, he quickly removed his helmet, displaying one of the first signs of emotion to Brenn so far in the form of a low whistle. "Impressive." he then added, his face showing none of it though. Taking a few steps further inside, he quickly abandoned his rifle on the nearest free surface, and carefully began examining the large collection of death dealing devices with a keenness rarely seen in the man. He turned to face the large heli-jet, cocking his head to one side as he took in the size and shape of the vehicle. The rockets didn't hurt either. He nodded, nodding was good, and this would do fine. Glancing over to Brenn he enquired "Not that I'm not a fan of, well, all this, but the orders mentioned bringing ole Toby in alive." he walked across the room as he spoke, reaching the other side and running a gloved hand along the length of the plasma rifle, before turning back to face the man. "Any of this come in non-lethal?" he asked, his mind immediately jumping to some of the more cunning Alliance tech such as kinetic weaponry. |

(If not wary of the edit - can just say TK was too distracted by the big guns) Brenn eyed the entire warehouse carefully before slipping his handgun back into the holster under his jacket and nodded to his companions eager question, pointing to the small table that seemed to be the informal 'Non-Lethal' section of the huge military hardware library. "You got a way to scan this place for bugs?" Carlson assumed the answer was 'yes' and was already tapping away on his handheld console device, adding a live photograph of the warehouse to the message he was compiling. Finished typing, he waited for some kind of go-ahead that the place was free of listening ears and spying eyes, leaning against a nearby desk. "It's all very impressive, yes. But I have a feeling we'll need a bit of support on this one. And perhaps a little time to lay low, reconsider our attack." He was noting the fact that they were likely just as wanted as Tobias Hawke at the moment, at least on Verbena, and some time to gather their bearings and perhaps call in an old favour. Once the all-clear was sounded, Brenn would send the message. |
